We believe that breeding a versatile gun dog is equal parts science and stewardship. Every GSP at Prime Line is first a cherished member of our family — raised underfoot, exposed to daily life, and given early exposure to birds, water, and varied terrain. Our puppies benefit from early neurological stimulation, structured socialization, and foundational field introductions that build confidence and natural ability. The result is a pup that transitions seamlessly from whelping box to hunting blind to living room rug.

Our commitment extends deeply into health and longevity. We rigorously screen every breeding dog: OFA hip and elbow evaluations, cardiac examinations (echocardiograms), thyroid panels, and comprehensive genetic testing for conditions relevant to the GSP (including von Willebrand's Disease, Cone Degeneration, and Exercise-Induced Collapse). Transparency is non‑negotiable — we share all clearances openly with prospective families.

We intentionally limit our litters to ensure every dam receives appropriate rest and every puppy receives individualized attention. Our breeding dogs run, swim, and point alongside us daily — they are partners, not production units. This approach yields dogs that are not only structurally sound and healthy but also possess the steady nerve and cooperative temperament that define a truly exceptional Shorthair.

Prime Line Pointers began with a single liver roan GSP named "Gunnar" — a dog with an exceptional nose and an even better heart. After witnessing the inconsistency in health and temperament across the breed, founder Mark Reeves dedicated himself to creating a program that prioritized the complete GSP package: athleticism, intelligence, and soundness. He partnered with veterinarians, field trialers, and breed mentors to develop a protocol that honors the Deutsch Kurzhaar standard while producing dogs that excel as both hunting partners and family members.

Today, Prime Line Pointers is a respected small-scale breeding program. We are proud members of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America and adhere to a strict code of ethics. Our puppies have gone on to become titled hunting companions, search and rescue dogs, and beloved adventure buddies across the country.
